The Brief:

The aim was to create a characterful bathroom with a strong Victorian influence, while also improving the practicality of the space. The existing layout needed reconsidering to allow for a larger shower, while the overall design needed to feel sympathetic to the period style of the property without becoming overly traditional.

The Design:

The scheme combines rich colour, pattern and traditional detailing to create a bathroom with plenty of personality. House of Hackney’s Artemis wallpaper provides a striking decorative focal point, complemented by wall tiles from Topps Tiles and patterned floor tiles from Your Tiles.

Farrow & Ball’s Hague Blue was chosen for the panelling, creating depth and contrast, while Calamine introduces a softer pink tone to the walls.

A bronze-finish slipper bath from Victorian Plumbing became a statement feature, while a high-cistern toilet was selected to reinforce the Victorian influence.

The design also involved more significant changes to the room itself. An existing cupboard was removed to create space for a larger shower tray, improving the functionality of the bathroom, while the window was replaced with a sash window to complement the traditional character of the scheme.

The result:

A bold yet considered bathroom that combines Victorian-inspired details with the practical requirements of a modern home. Rich colour, pattern and traditional fittings give the room character, while changes to the layout have created a more functional and enjoyable space.
