A Refined Room for Relaxing & Entertaining

Daytime elegance and nightime cosiness

The Brief:

The brief was to transform an existing dining room into an elegant yet comfortable drawing room — somewhere that could be enjoyed during the day but would feel warm and cosy in the evening.

The aim was to create a room with character and a sense of history, combining traditional pattern and colour with contemporary pieces and carefully sourced vintage finds.

The Design:

The scheme began with Lucie Annabel’s Tulip Garden wallpaper in Sweet Pink and Olive on Cream, which set the palette for the room. Sulking Room Pink was used on the walls, with Peignoir carried across the panelling, fireplace and ceiling to create a soft, enveloping feel.

Pattern plays an important part in the scheme, with William Morris appearing in the Strawberry Thief rug from Ruggable and Rose Pink Acorn fabric for the curtains. A green velvet loveseat from Dunelm provides contrast alongside the pink Joules sofa from DFS.

New pieces were mixed with vintage and second-hand finds to give the room a more collected feel. An antique display cabinet was sourced through eBay, while an existing table and chairs, also found on eBay, were given a new lease of life with Annie Sloan’s Capability Green paint.

Lighting from Rockett St George and Next, a Laura Ashley coffee table and LVT flooring from Flooring Superstore complete the scheme.

The Result:

 

A colourful and characterful drawing room that feels elegant without being formal — bringing together old and new, pattern and colour to create a space that feels as though it has evolved over time.
